Hugh Jackman may play a superhero in the “X-Men” franchise, but he’s also got some super powers of his own.
The 47-year-old actor jumped into action Saturday afternoon after he, his 15-year-old son Oscar and fellow swimmers got stuck in a riptide while taking a dip at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia.
In a dramatic 5-second video released by The Nine Network, Jackman can be seen linking arms with fellow swimmers to emerge safely from the riptide, while also motioning to others still in the water to come to shore.
Lifeguards quickly joined in the rescue effort, using boards and jetskis to rescue additional beachgoers.
An unnamed witness told The Sunday Telegraph that Jackman remained calm during the ordeal.
“He stopped and helped this bloke stand up and he also helped his son,” the witness said. “The swell was pretty nasty. It was a beautiful day, but the swell was up.”
The North Bondi Surf Life Saving Club thanked the actor for his heroics on their Instagram later in the day.
“@thehughjackman was also spotted assisting with rescues! Thanks Hugh,” the group shared.
