An American Airlines co-pilot allegedly engaged in a little nonstop boozing before showing up for work at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on Saturday — failing two Breathalyzers and getting yanked off the job.
A Federal Aviation Administration official said that the 7 a.m. flight from Detroit to Philadelphia was canceled and the unnamed co-pilot was “detained this morning under suspicion of having a BAC over the legal limit” when he arrived for work.
“Safety is our highest priority and we apologize to our customers for the disruption to their travel plans,” the airline said in a statement.
An airport police spokesman said the co-pilot has been released as authorities determine whether to file charges.
