Saturday is Repeal Day. Why should you care about something that happened almost a century ago? Well, it's the celebration of the end of Prohibition. It’s also the reason behind $1 cocktails at seven bars around Los Angeles. That’s right, seven bars (all from the 1933 Group) are serving $1 cocktails, for two hours, on Saturday.
Harlowe, Sassafras, Bigfoot West, Bigfoot Lodge, Thirsty Crow and Oldfield's will all serve $1 Old Fashioned cocktails between 5 and 7 p.m.
And if you're feeling like tequila, La Cuevita in Highland Park is serving $1 Tequila Press cocktails between 5 and 7 p.m.
Beelman's Pub is offering a buy one Jameson Black Barrel Old Fashioned, get the second for $1 special from 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. Saturday, as well as a $4 Boardwalk Empire punch made with Bushmills, Gifford pêche, lemon and grenadine.
Townhouse in Venice Beach is celebrating its 100-year anniversary Thursday, but will continue the festivities through Repeal Day. On Saturday, the doors will open at noon instead of at the regular 8 p.m. opening time. There will be live music, and when the owner rings a bell, there will be Prohibition-era prices on all cocktails for one hour. He's just not going to tell you when, or exactly how much Prohibition-era cocktails are, beforehand.
