A 48-year-old woman was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday after she was slammed by a driver in the Bronx, police said.
The van crashed into the woman as she crossed Westchester Ave. near Pilgrim Ave. in Pelham Bay at 4:39 p.m., cops said. She was not in the crosswalk, police said.
The victim was in grave condition Jacobi Medical Center with head trauma.
Police initially believed two cars were involved and that one had fled. They later determined only a 2005 Chevy Astrovan had struck the woman.
The driver remained on scene and was not immediately charged.
The collision came amid a 10-day police crackdown on dangerous drivers as part of Mayor de Blasio’s Vision Zero plan to reduce traffic incidents.
Two pedestrians — a man and a woman — were killed Wednesday just blocks from each other in Brooklyn in separate incidents, cops said.
