Ronda Rousey got the unlikely support of Floyd Mayweather this week. There has been a groundswell of reaction following Rousey’s loss to Holly Holm on Saturday at UFC 193. As you might expect, social media had plenty to say about Rousey, and as you might expect, some of it was pretty brutal.
But one person surprisingly didn’t take Rousey to task after the loss. Floyd Mayweather actually stood up for Rousey in an interview with Fight Hype, offering what appears to be a genuine, heartfelt, and backhanded perspective on the Fight Hype.
“I don’t think it’s cool how everyone is trolling her on social media. Certain things you have to learn. People will love you on Friday and then Sunday morning, it’s nothing but negative comments and people making jokes and people making fun about you, which I don’t think is cool. I’ve never been on the other side, so I don’t know how it feels. I’m pretty sure she’s a very, very strong person, but we still have to take into consideration that she has feelings.”
There are two halves of this Mayweather quote. The first is the admonishment of trolls on the Internet. The second is the (un?)intentional burn that Floyd can’t help but slide in, noting that he’s never lost so he can’t relate to Rousey. Typical Mayweather, always sneaking points when no one is looking.
