Police say they suspect foul play in the death of the 83-year-old wife of a millionaire McDonald's franchisee found dead at their Westchester hilltop estate.

New York State Police say Lois Colley was found dead by a caretaker Monday in the laundry room of her home at the sprawling compound of Windswept Farms in North Salem.

Colley died of blunt force trauma, police said at a news conference Tuesday. Investigators are looking for a missing small fire extinguisher.

The wealthy socialite had last been heard from about two hours earlier, at around 3 p.m. and there was no sign of forced entry, according to police. No valuables were taken.

Colley's husband, Eugene, is known for his empire of roughly 100 McDonald's restaurants, according to the Journal News. Police said they don't his whereabouts, but he is not considered a suspect in his wife's death.
The family lives in an area of extreme wealth where horse farms dot the landscape. There is no history domestic issues on the property, police said, and no suspect has been identified.

Investigators were scouring the Colley family compound Tuesday. Police are asking the public to contact them with sightings of any suspicious activity in the area.

Neighbor Lydia Hatch said she'd known Colley for 30 years.

"It's a shame. It's very tragic," she said. "She was a very nice woman. Very, very sincere, very nice."
