NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) — A state lawmaker is calling for the installation of more security cameras in Crown Heights, Brooklyn.

As WCBS 880’s Peter Haskell reported, the plea from Assemblyman Dov Hikind, D-Brooklyn, comes after an off-duty volunteer EMT was the victim of an unprovoked slashing in the neighborhood Tuesday night.

“I’m ready to actually help with some capital money to actually bring more surveillance cameras into this community,” Hikind said.

Hikind helped fund a similar effort in other neighborhoods after surveillance video helped cops catch the man who killed 8-year-old Leiby Kletzky in 2011.

“You cannot walk three blocks in Borough Park or Midwood and not be on camera,” Hikind said.

Three hundred cameras were installed in those neighborhoods.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams supports the measure.
